A U.S. court to hold hearings on CMRR plutonium facility at Los Alamos

On April 27, 2011 U.S. District Judge will hear arguments in a case brought by Los Alamos Study Group against the plans to build the Chemistry and Metallurgy Research Replacement (CMRR) facility at Los Alamos National Laboratory. The group want a preliminary injunction to prohibit all funding of the facility, arguing that the Department of Energy had to present a new environmental impact assessment before proceeding with the construction. Details of the lawsuit can be found on the Los Alamos Study Group website.

Construction of the CMRR facility is part of the U.S. administration plan to rebuild infrastructure of the nuclear weapons complex.
